Man United are pushing ahead with a move to try and sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United.
Major change is underway at Manchester United. By all accounts, a deal to make Erik ten Hag our new manager is pretty much done.
The Dutchman will need time to settle in. He’ll also require multiple transfer windows to make this squad into one that fits his image.
Ralf Rangnick and the board will already have some ideas in mind, given the fact that the German has worked with this squad for multiple months now, it makes sense to take his thoughts into account.
With that in mind, it’s being claimed that the Old Trafford club are going to push ahead and make a move for Kalvin Phillips.
The story comes from the Manchester Evening News, who state that United are ‘working on’ a deal to sign the 26-year-old this summer. On top of that, the Reds have made signing a defensive midfielder a priority.
Although United are keen on signing Phillips’ international teammates, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, the club are likely to be priced out of a move – hence the interest in Leeds united’s Phillips.
It’s thought that Ten Hag would have a veto on any players United have already shortlisted, but the club are going to press on and try bring in Phillips this summer.
Phillips is also aligned with Rangnick’s preference of moving for hungry players who are seeking a ‘progressive career move’.
I like this idea, I believe Phillips would be a nice addition to the squad. An absolute game-changer? No, but he certainly makes our midfield better as soon as he walks through the door.
Would Leeds United really want to sell to us? Probably not. Would Phillips absolutely want to come to Old Trafford? There’s no guarantees on that, either…
