Man United working on deal to sign Amad Traore before deadline day: report

Man United are looking to sign a winger before Monday’s transfer deadline, with Amad Traore now linked with an Old Trafford switch.

A couple of weeks ago, we covered a story from the Manchester Evening News, who claimed that United were ‘exploring the possibility’ of signing the forward.

Well, over the last 24 hours, the Manchester Evening News have been back at it again. Giving us another update in regards to a potential United move for Traore.

Apparently, United are working on a deal to sign the 18-year-old winger before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Furthermore, talks are progressing, with there being cautious optimism, presumably on United’s part, about finalising the signing. There is a catch, though, with the deal not being described as ‘straightforward’ by sources close to the situation…

That’s due to work permit issues. Traore is yet to represent the Ivory Coast at international level, which could be a problem. However, he may not need a permit if he still holds an Italian passport, having moved to Italy as a youngster.

So how much would Man United have to pay to sign Amad Traore?

Well, Italian sources state that he wouldn’t be cheap. That’s despite only playing 30 minutes of Serie A football. Atalanta sold Dejan Kulusevski to Juventus for almost £30million. He hadn’t played a kick of Serie A action. You’d imagine they’d want a similar fee to let Traore leave…

For a player who is obviously unproven in England, this has to be regarded as a risk. United find themselves in a tough situation, though. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs another winger in this first-team squad. The board need to back their man and get someone through the door.

Is Traore going to be that man who is acquired? Who knows, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
