Man United working on deal to sign Pau Torres: report

Man United are seemingly keen on signing Villareal centre-back, Pau Torres.

Earlier today, we covered a claim from Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, who claimed that United are ‘ready to launch’ an offer of around £43million to sign Pau Torres.

Now, that claim has been backed up by English media outlet, the Manchester Evening News. They claim in their headline that United are ‘working’ on a deal to sign the Spaniard Torres.

Apparently, United are ‘making progress’ on signing the 24-year-old this summer, with the Reds going ‘all out’ to add a signing in the key centre-back position during this window.

The name most linked has been Raphael Varane, though Torres hasn’t been too far behind. He played excellently against United in the Europa League final, before heading off to the European Championships with Spain this summer.

What’s interesting is that there is a ‘growing belief’ a deal could be struck this summer. Although any move is likely to happen later on in the window, due to Torres’ aforementioned involvement at EURO 2020.

The fact that Torres is left-footed is also attractive to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he wants a left-sided defender to perfectly complement the right-footed Harry Maguire.

In terms of transfer cost, it’s claimed by the MEN that Torres has a €60m (£51.4m) release clause in his current deal – which doesn’t expire until 2024.

As of right now, it’s stated United are keeping their options open in their chase for a centre-back, with plenty of back-up options also being considered.

The good news is that even if United don’t manage to acquire Torres, it looks as though they’re doing their due diligence.
