Man United would consider Axel Tuanzebe sale this summer: report

Man United could consider parting ways with Axel Tuanzebe this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a real decision to make in regards to his centre-half situation. So let’s start by stating the obvious. Harry Maguire isn’t going anywhere. In truth, he’s been the only consistency we’ve had at the position.

Victor Lindelof has shown flashes of his ability. The sad thing is, we’ve seen some dreadful performances from him, too. Eric Bailly is another who looks more than capable but his injury problems scupper any dreams of the Ivorian becoming a world-class centre-back.

Then you have Axel Tuanzebe. The centre-back looks to have all the ability in the world, though he too has had injury and inconsistency issues. At the moment, he’s just not involved at the first-team level, which tells you exactly what Solskjaer thinks of him as a player…

Now, the usually reliable Andy Mitten has given his take. He’s claimed that United could be tempted to part with the talented 23-year-old – but only if the right offer comes in.

Check out what Mitten had to say here:

“If United thought Tuanzebe was going to come through, they wouldn’t be scouting central defenders. If a club came in and offered good money for Axel Tuanzebe, United will be tempted by that.” Mitten said on Talk of the Devils podcast, per @UtdDistrict.

Like I said, I think it’s telling that, despite United’s defensive problems, Tuanzebe has remained out in the cold. Outside of doing a real number on Kylian Mbappe in the Champions League, the 23-year-old has seriously struggled.

Look at how badly he played against Demba Ba’s Istanbul Basaksehir before the turn of the year, while at his age, Tuanzebe should be starting to show signs of real improvement. We haven’t seen that.

Don’t get me wrong, I like him as a player. I just don’t see him as someone who’s going to be able to offer regular starts for the Red Devils season-in-season-out. Perhaps it’s just bad timing as Solskjaer is looking for someone with more experience as he looks to build a defence that can win titles.

In terms of a transfer fee and potential buying clubs, nothing is mentioned. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Aston Villa’s name pop up as a potential suitor as Tuanzebe was excellent for them while on loan during their Championship promotion campaign.

If I had to guess, I’d say somewhere between the £15-20m mark would be more than enough to get the deal done. In the middle of a pandemic, that sort of cash could be useful to the Old Trafford club…
