Remember the name, Mason Greenwood. Manchester United have always been known for harnessing young talents and turning them into world beaters.

Greenwood, is without question, the most talented player on Red Devils books at the moment, and he’s showing it every single game right now.

While he was on the bench when United took on Valencia CF last week, the forward wasn’t called upon. Perhaps Jose Mourinho considers it too soon for the Englishman, but as the old saying goes, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

Last night, Greenwood scored a brilliant hat-trick against Chelsea as United progressed in the FA Youth Cup. Now I know mirroring these displays at a higher level won’t be easy, but you have to remember that he’ll have remarkably better players around him.

The young man is quick, agile, direct, has a great eye for goal and has an excellent footballing brain. United are struggling to score goals at the moment, while Mourinho’s job is hanging on by a thread.

What does the manager have to lose by giving Greenwood his shot? If the young man comes in and plays well, Mourinho is hailed a hero, if he struggles, then he’ll head back to youth level for another few months and no harm done.

No pressure, Jose, but Greenwood deserves his shot, surely?
