Manchester United have named a 24-strong party to take on AS Roma tomorrow night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils are sitting pretty at the moment, though their Europa League job isn’t over. They’re rare, sure, but we’ve seen four-goal comebacks in continental competition before. It’s up to this current Manchester United squad to get the job done.
A 24-strong party has been named for the AS Roma game, with the usual suspects like Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Harry Maguire all included.
There was also a place in the squad for 19-year-old starlet, Anthony Elanga, who is yet to make his first-team debut. Just yesterday, we were talking up the Swede as one player who could get that opportunity before this season is out.
Elanga, a tricky winger, is United’s top scorer for the U23s this term. That’s despite missing a few months with a pretty serious injury at the start of 2021. The good news is he’s now back and ready to make his mark within the first-team setup.
With United being comfortable, this could be the perfect chance to get Elanga some minutes. I’d doubt he’ll start this one, but perhaps as a late substitute when the tie is done, this could be the morale boost he needs to take his game to that next level.
Failing that, they’ll be plenty of chances for minutes in the Premier League as our campaign winds down. With each passing game, we’re getting closer and closer to locking in that second-place finish. As soon as that’s officially confirmed, don’t be surprised to see an influx of youth within the first-team squad. Elanga should be at the front of that queue.
