Man United’s Alexis Sanchez undergoes ankle surgery, won’t play again in 2019: report

Manchester United just simply cannot catch an injury break at the moment – although this latest blow is to a player currently not at the club…

According to the Daily Mirror, United attacker Alexis Sanchez, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan, has undergone ankle surgery today.

Furthermore, the 30-year-old Chilean will not play again in 2019 and he’s set to be sidelined for three months due to the problem that he picked up while playing for his country.

Sanchez will not return to the football field until February which actually leaves Inter with a decision to make. Do the Serie A club send the Reds flop back to Old Trafford? Because right now they’ll be paying wages to a player who cannot play for a huge chunk of the season. The other option is to keep him, but right now, that doesn’t seem that wise…

For United, this only lessens the chances of the club being able to move away from him on a permanent deal next summer. He’s basically damaged goods at this point and getting a decent transfer fee for him is nigh-on impossible.

Hopefully, Antonio Conte chooses to keep him around in the short-term and when he returns, Sanchez plays well temping Inter into buying him for good. I have my doubts though…
