Manchester United’s Juan Mata has been identified as a potential summer signing by AS Roma, according to Calciomercato, translated by Bleacher Report. The Spaniard is being considered as an alternative to Riyad Mahrez, should the Serie A side not be able to sign Leicester’s Algerian star.
Mata has just one-year left on his Manchester United contract, but recent reports have suggested that the Red Devils are confident of tying him down to a new long-term deal.
On top of that, the aforementioned article from Italy reckons that the early indication is that Roma may struggle to meet both United’s and Mata’s financial demands.
To be honest, I personally wouldn’t see any logic in letting Mata go. He’s a rare type of player who can create something out of nothing, and we don’t have any other player with his footballing brain within our squad.
This is a player who makes everyone around him better, and when he’s on the field, Manchester United play a much more aesthetically pleasing brand of football.
Barring an absolutely enormous offer coming in for him, it does look as though he’ll be staying at the Theatre of Dreams, but absolutely anything can happen in football so we’ll just have to see how this one plays out.
