Man United’s Eric Bailly ruled out until 2020 with knee injury: report

Earlier this month, we covered a story from The Sun, who claimed that Manchester United defender Eric Bailly was targeting an early return from his knee injury. It was suggested he could return in November as opposed to the new year…

Well yesterday, in an exclusive, The Sun gave us another update. This time, it’s bad news, as the 25-year-old defender is now set to be ruled out until 2020 as fears are growing about Bailly’s recovery.

The Ivory Coast international picked up the problem in a pre-season game against Tottenham Hotspur, and went for surgery in early-August, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff are concerned about his slow recovery.

It’s now believed he’ll miss the rest of 2019 despite there being ‘plenty of early optimism’ (per The Sun’s United source).

This makes the Harry Maguire signing even more crucial. At this stage, though, I’m not even sure where Bailly stands in the pecking order. The aforementioned Maguire’s ahead, as are Axel Tuanzebe and Victor Lindelof. At best, Bailly’s fourth choice – but even then Phil Jones may have something to say about that…


At this stage, for Bailly, it’s about not rushing the recovery and getting himself back fully fit. He’s had awful injury problems of late and the only way to overcome that is by allowing him all the time he needs…
