In the modern-day game, securing Champions League football can prove detrimental. For Manchester United, they’ll be without European football’s premiere competition for at least twelve months.
We all know that’s going to have an effect on the summer transfer market. Players like Paul Pogba apparently want out due to it, while hunting new recruits has been made all-the-tougher…
According to the Daily Mail, failure to finish in the top four has ‘put a big dent’ in United’s hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund hotshot, Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils had apparently made the teen sensation their top transfer target going into the summer on the back of a simply stunning season in the Bundesliga.
Rated at £100million, Sancho has now featured in Gareth Southgate’s last two England squads, and a move back to the Premier League would certainly aid his growth and development as a footballer.
Initially, Sancho was ‘open’ to an Old Trafford move but he wants to be playing in the best competitions and now the prospect of United acquiring the 18-year-old are ‘doubtful’.
It’s a shame because Sancho is just brilliant. He’s exciting to watch due to his on-ball brilliance, he scores goals, makes assists and troubles opposing defences with his trickery. The Englishman would get bums on seats due to his directness, and in that regard I liken him to a young Cristiano Ronaldo.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be moving to Salford Quays this season. I just hope Sancho stays put at Dortmund and United can finish in the top four to have a chance at acquiring him in twelve months time. Although I’m not holding my breath…
