Talented Man United youngster, Shea Lacey, is set to make his injury return after the current international break.
Manchester United’s pre-season tour was jam-packed with Red Devils youngsters who were looking to make a positive impression on Erik ten Hag. The likes of Toby Collyer and Amad did exactly that. Both are now in the first-team squad.
However, one emerging talent was denied the chance to impress due to being sidelined by injury; Shea Lacey. The attacker, who is considered among the best youngsters at the club at the moment, has been dealing with a muscle injury that has kept him out for multiple months.
However, over the last 24 hours, the Manchester Evening News has provided a positive update on that front. They claim that United’s ‘exciting’ youngster Lacey is set to make his injury return after the international break.
The forward is now ‘in contention’ to play for the club’s U18s side next weekend, when they take on Newcastle United.
Lacey is set to be ‘carefully handled’ and eased back into action following so long out, with United clearly keen on ensuring that the teenager isn’t at risk of re-injury. This is smart as Lacey hasn’t played since April, which was five months ago.
It does feel like Lacey is among the leading group to be next in line for their first-team breakthrough. This injury has probably denied the attacker his chance at making that leap during this season, with the 2025 pre-season now looking a realistic target.
This kid is special. Predominantly a right-winger, with the ability to play all across the front line, Lacey’s versatility could see the young man presented with an opportunity sooner, as Ten Hag does like those players who can perform at a high level in a variety of different positions.
It’s certainly encouraging to see Lacey will be back out there soon.
