Man United’s soon-to-be director Dan Ashworth holds ‘secret meeting’ with Graham Potter

Man United are expected to hire Dan Ashworth at some point in the not too distant future, with the Englishman seemingly already putting in the work behind the scenes…

Football is a brutal game. One loss in 2024 and Erik ten Hag is already feeling the heat. With INEOS now in charge, there’s every chance that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company have their eyes set on a different manager.

The Dutchman is likely on thin ice, as Manchester United head towards a huge summer transfer window. I personally would stick with Ten Hag, who is definitely building a squad that fits his style of play.

However, I have absolutely zero say in the matter and the situation is so finely balanced.

The Sun seem to be hinting at a potential change in boss, with Graham Potter potentially on the list of options.

They state that United’s soon-to-be Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, has held a ‘secret meeting’ with the 48-year-old manager Potter, as pressure continues to build on Ten Hag.

Apparently, Potter is the ‘favourite’ of both Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his sidekick, Sir Dave Brailsford, while Ashworth worked with Potter during their time together at Brighton.

Ratcliffe is a ‘big fan’ of the Englishman, whom he tried to sign for his french side, Nice.

This is an intriguing story. Ashworth technically isn’t a United employee at this point, while he remains on Gardening leave after a fallout with Newcastle United. For all we know, this ‘secret meeting’ could have been just two friends sharing a lunch together and absolutely nothing to do with business.

For me, I’d be underwhelmed if United actively sacked Ten Hag in order to bring in Potter. It feels like a downgrade, but it would be interesting…
