Man United’s Tahith Chong praised by loan manager

Tahith Chong has been commended for his versatility, by Birmingham City boss, Lee Bowyer.

Manchester United’s squads, at all levels, are overflowing with top-class talent. Credit to ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the youth coaches, who have hoovered up the best young players in the world over the last few years.

One player who has been on the fringes of the first-team for a fair while is Tahith Chong. The Dutchman, who big things were once expected of, has flirted with appearances at the top level for United. However, he’s yet to really grasp his chance.

This term, Chongy is spending his time out on loan with Birmingham City in the Championship. On debut, he’d win Man of the Match from midfield – which to my knowledge, is a completely new position for him.

Now, after impressing again last weekend, the 21-year-old United man has been praised for his versatility by his loan manager, Lee Bowyer.

“Chong is a good player and he can play anywhere,” Bowyer told the official Birmingham website. “He has played two games now and has played in two different positions, and I am sure he will play in a few more as well! Good players just adapt.”

I know it’s early stages, but it looks like Chong is a cut above the Championship level. The fact that he’s transformed from a winger into a midfielder, and looking like the best player on the pitch in the process, is credit to his insane talent.

For what it’s worth, I always thought it’d be hard for Chong to cement himself in the side at United. The attacking third is where we’re probably at our strongest and breaking into the team was never going to be easy.

Maybe he’s best-served by sticking it out on that box-to-box midfield, do a little-bit-of-everything role. He’s seemingly good enough to do it, while that’s an area where United are somewhat light in.

For now, it’s down to Chong to do what he’s doing, keep impressing and come back to Manchester next summer with a point to prove.
