Last week reports emerged that Manchester United were close to agreeing a fee with Borussia Dortmund for their highly thought of midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, and today that transfer became another step closer to reality.
Dortmund themselves confirmed that the 25-year old has refused any deal put on the table, and that more than likely means he will be leaving the club this summer – and probably for Manchester United.
Of course the German side could refuse to sell their star, but that’d almost certainly mean they’d get nothing for Gunodan in a years time when he would inevitably leave on a free deal.
United are thought to be the clear frontrunners for his signature, with fellow Premier League side Arsenal although keeping an interest in him.
After coming back from a long injury, there would be somewhat of a risk in making this signing, but its one that’d thoroughly boost our chances at silverware next season.
The fee is expected to be somewhere around the £20million mark which is steep for a player going into the final year of his contract, but that proves just exactly how highly regarded Gundogan is.
