Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, according to The Metro. The German international is stalling on a new contract in his homeland, awaiting offers from elsewhere before making his final decision.
Gundogan has recently returned from a long injury layoff, and if that injury didn’t occur, the chances are he would already be a Manchester United player.
The club have been big admirers of the versatile midfielder for a few years now, and it looks as though they are happy with his progress since suffering that injury and Van Gaal is ready to make his move.
United are believed to be ‘very confident’ regarding the deal going through, despite the fact that Dortmund are still hopeful he’ll pen a new deal at the Westfalenstadion.
