Manchester United have been dealt yet another injury blow this season, as the veteran Michale Carrick has been ruled out for at least four weeks with a muscle problem. Louis van Gaal broke the news whilst speaking to MUTV today.
“We don’t have many injuries,” Van Gaal said.
“Ashley Young is coming back, but Michael Carrick has been injured now so he is out at the weekend. He can be important for the team but he is now injured.
“I think it shall take more than four weeks, so it is not a minor injury but a muscle rupture, I think.”
Carrick has been wonderful since his return to the side before the turn of the year, but it does present the opportunity for one of the younger players to step up and try to fill in the void. Marouane Fellaini has been in superb form recently, but many are still puzzled as to why Ander Herrera hasn’t been utilised more – hopefully we’ll see him involved from here on out.
There is some better news though, as the gaffer confirmed that Ashley Young is nearing a return after his prolonged absence due to a hamstring problem which he suffered on New Years Day.
