Manchester United lost their first game in seven outings at the weekend, as an Eden Hazard inspired Chelsea performance gave Mourinho’s men a 1-0 win. One player who could’ve made the difference in that game was Michael Carrick.
The 33-year old missed the aforementioned game with a shin injury, and his absence in the middle of the park was felt as Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas controlled key areas.
United’s next game doesn’t get any easier, with an away trip to Goodison Park and Everton next up. According to The Telegraph, Michael Carrick is facing an uphill battle to be fit for that game, meaning Wayne Rooney may well have to continue in midfield.
Rooney can play the role, but he is nowhere near Michael Carrick in terms of winning the ball back, keeping it simple and picking the right passes. I’d much prefer Angel di Maria to play in the middle with Marouane Fellaini playing the holding role, allowing Wayne Rooney to continue to flourish up front.
