Man Utd dealt blow in hunt for defensive summer signing

Manchester United have been dealt a blow as one of their reported summer targets has seemingly ruled out a move away from his current club. Aymeric Laporte, 20, has declared his happiness in Bilbao and he ‘wants to continue what he’s doing’ for now.

“Here there are many people of experience and I’m learning a lot from them.

“I have played a lot of games and I want to continue to do what I’m doing.” Laporte said.

That sounds as though he isn’t planning on leaving Bilbao any time soon, and you cannot really blame him. He is playing regularly for the Basque side, and at such a tender age he’ll have to be careful to not go chasing the money and stick to focusing on his on-field performances.

He has plenty of time to move on from Spain, and you have to admire the Frenchman’s loyalty to Bilbao.

United need someone more experienced than the 20-year old, despite how talented he looks to be. I’d much prefer a Hummels or a Garay to come through the doors in the summer, as they’ll be able to take command of the back line and help our younger defenders during the game.

Would Laporte be a good signing? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.
