Manchester United’s defensive woes have continued this season, with Van Gaal choosing to add only Marcos Rojo in terms of central defenders to the squad last summer. That back line could be cut down by a couple of players come next season according to the Daily Mail.
The players in question are the defensive duo of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. The English pair are yet to be offered new deals at Manchester United, despite their contracts expiring in just over a years time.
If United let those contracts run down, they’d obviously get no fee for either player, and that could be an expensive loss after forking out close to £30million combined.
Jones and Smalling have both put in improved performances in recent weeks, but the United fans would’ve hoped to have seen much more of a development from the duo since they were first brought together a few years ago.
Many were touting them as a future England centre-back pairing but they haven’t shown anywhere near enough talent to make it into the United team together all that often.
