Man Utd fans hope Edinson Cavani is released after latest injury setback

Manchester United fans are growing increasingly concerned about Edinson Cavani’s pretty dreadful injury record.

Over the summer, supporters saw the last-minute move for Edinson Cavani as a panic one. I’ll admit, I was amongst them. However, it didn’t take El Matador long to win us all over.

He’d bring some much-needed experience, quality and clinical finishing to the table. That was evident from the get-go. Important goals, leadership, someone who United could build their attack around.

However, as the campaign has gone on, the injuries have started to mount. More often than not, Cavani has been unavailable for United, particularly in the matches where they’ve needed him the most.

Yesterday, it was confirmed by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Cavani wouldn’t be travelling due to a ‘reaction’ suffered in training, on his second day back out there on the turf…

This isn’t an isolated incident. Right now, it’s more likely that Cavani is unavailable for selection that fit and ready to play. Can United afford to take that risk going into a massive 2021/22 term?

Signing Cavani was the reason why Odion Ighalo was allowed to leave. Obviously, there’s a massive gap in quality when both are fit, but the Uruguayan is now becoming another problem, rather than fixing the issue that he was brought in to solve.

United now have a decision to make. Keeping Cavani around for another season would be a massive gamble, or do they head in a different direction?

Taking a look on Twitter, it seems like the majority of United fans are losing patience with the star, who they’re seriously starting to doubt because of mounting injuries. Is that fair…?
