Man Utd ‘forced to sign’ Memphis Depay

Manchester United made their first signing of the summer transfer window yesterday when they made the £25million swoop for Memphis Depay. However today in his pre-match presser, Louis van Gaal admitted that he was forced into making the signing.

The Iron Tulip clearly isn’t a fan of making signatures before the season as ended as you can see from the following quotes below:

“I had to handle it otherwise he would have signed for PSG,” Van Gaal said.

“When you sign a player you disturb the focus of your present group of players,” The Dutchman added

“I don’t want to speak with players before the season has ended – I have also a feeling to my players. But now, because of the close relationship I have with PSV, I could handle it.”

Its clear that Louis van Gaal wanted to sign Depay, but he obviously would’ve preferred to wait until the summer transfer window officially opens so it doesn’t disturb the current group of players.

All that said, I simply cannot wait for Depay to get started. He’ll be a massive player for us during the years to come and he’ll certainly bring excitement to Old Trafford.

Will Depay make an instant impact at Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
