Manchester United’s top need remains at centre-half, with Raphael Varane seemingly the guy atop that list.
Jadon Sancho is here, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally landing his man. Now, it’s all about finding the perfect partner for Harry Maguire.
The Englishman was nothing short of sensational for his country last night, though at club level, he hasn’t had that reliable partner who allows the United skipper to show off his full capabilities. Perhaps Raphael Varane is that man.
The Frenchman has been consistently linked with an Old Trafford move this summer, with Fabrizio Romano providing us another update over the last 24 hours.
Apparently, United are ‘in contact’ with Real Madrid about the potential signing of the 28-year-old. Romano does state that there has been no official bid yet, while adding a word of caution that this will not be a quick deal.
Personal terms will not be an issue for the Old Trafford outfit, though Real are still trying to convince the Frenchman to stay. The player, however, wants to try something new.
Varane has been atop United’s wish list for ‘months’, and fair play to the powers-that-be who are pushing really hard to get this deal over the line.
I’ll be honest, I never thought this transfer would even be remotely possible but United are pulling out all the stops to bring Varane in.
There’s still an awful long way to go in the window and we’ll have to be patient with this Varane transfer, but imagine if United could somehow pull this one off?
Suddenly, our defence goes from the leakiest in the top six on paper, to arguably the strongest. I know there’s no guarantees in football, but a back two of Maguire and Varane definitely gets me excited…
