Another day, another Nikola Milenkovic update. This time, it’s a pretty positive one from a Red Devils standpoint.
Manchester United Football Club need a new centre-back. Eric Bailly is always injured, while Victor Lindelof is consistently inconsistent. If you could somehow combine the best attributes of them both into one centre-half, then we’d be onto something.
Sadly we can’t do that, which leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a pretty big decision to make. The key is finding the ideal partner for Harry Maguire, who often looks excellent when the player alongside him is in good form.
Enter, Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic. We’ve been covering this rumour almost daily, from several media outlets, mostly Italian ones.
Today’s update comes from La Repubblica, translated by the guys over at Sport Witness. Apparently, Milenkovic isn’t short of offers from both Italy and abroad, which does make sense given his contract expires in 2022 and he’s likely to be available in some sort of cut-price deal.
What’s interesting is that United are said to have made the ‘most impressive’ offer to sign the 23-year-old. Sport Witness stress it seems they’re talking about a general offer, rather than a concrete financial bid.
In terms of price, it’s claimed United could make an official offer of around £30m, though AC Milan and Atletico Madrid wouldn’t let that deal happen so easily as they’re both keen on Milenkovic.
Milenkovic’s situation at Fiorentina is said to be ‘compromised’, which is most likely due to his contract situation. That leaves the Serie A outfit in a massive dilemma. Either sell the Serbian now for a reduced fee, or lose him for free in twelve months time.
Who knows whether Milenkovic is cut out for the Premier League at the highest level? It does feel like a risk worth taking, though…
