Manchester United have been constantly linked with a move for Jack Grealish during this lockdown period – which does make sense given the Red Devils’ lack of creativity.
Sure, that has changed somewhat since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, however, personally, I thought more offensive firepower was still needed.
Well, Lord David Ornstein has spoken in that regard, and he’s going against the grain in regards to Grealish. Apparently, United are ‘not in’ for the star 24-year-old, instead, they’re prioritising a different position; holding midfielder…
‘Some contacts tell me United are not in for Grealish and are focusing more on a holding midfielder than his kind of position’ Ornstein replied to a fan on an Athletic Q&A session.
‘In a normal market, I think Villa would have been looking for around £40/50m if they got relegated, up to £90m if they stayed up. But it’s not a normal market now.’
This is a transfer shock to me. Grealish seems perfect for United, though who are we to doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? Who has been excellent when it comes to signing players thus far.
Perhaps United were put off by Grealish’s antics during the supposed lockdown. Maybe the Aston Villa man was never a target?
For me, though, £40-50m, for a player of his calibre, in today’s market, would be a stunning piece of business. He has that swagger, cockiness, arrogance that is required to go right to the top. Sometimes boundaries will be crossed, but for me the risk is worth it.
