Donny van de Beek could be set for crunch talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer.
When Manchester United made their move for Dutch star Donny van de Beek, my initial reaction was excitement. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had signed a creative, game-changing player who could orchestrate our attacks.
The early signs were largely positive. Van de Beek looked comfortable in the United midfield, linking things together nicely. However, a lack of starts saw confidence dip. The Dutchman hasn’t looked anywhere near the same player since.
It has truly been a season to forget for Van de Beek and he’s seemingly keen on putting things right ahead of the next campaign. According to The Telegraph, the United outcast is expected to hold talks with manager Solskjaer about where he stands in the squad ahead of the 2021/22 season.
No doubt Solskjaer’s stance will be to try and incorporate the player into the starting line-up on a more regular basis, while plenty depends on whether Paul Pogba will remain at the club. I still firmly believe Van de Beek was signed as at the time, it looked like our French midfielder would be leaving Old Trafford. Obviously, things have since changed.
Van de Beek, someone who cost £40million, is well within his rights to ask his manager about where he fits in next season. If the 24-year-old doesn’t like the answer given to him by the Baby Faced Assassin, I wouldn’t be surprised if he requested a transfer away from the Theatre of Dreams.
The good news for United’s number 34 is that he’s still going to be partaking in the European Championships with his beloved Netherlands this summer. This is the perfect opportunity for him to start building up that confidence again, while it could offer Solskjaer some tips on how best to utilise the former Ajax man.
For what it’s worth, I think Donny will be here next term, I also believe he’ll play a lot better.
