Defensively, Manchester United have improved massively over the last few months, though transfer links to defenders give off the impression that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels there is more work to be done in that regard.
The Baby Faced Assassin has shown a tendency to sign younger players, who’ll be here for the long-term as opposed to a season or two.
Daniel James was Solskjaer’s first signing as United boss and it seems as though he’s looking to the Welsh club once again. This time at defender Joe Rodon.
The story comes from the Daily Mirror, who state that United ‘plan on sealing’ the signing of the 22-year-old defender in a deal worth £20million.
What’s interesting is that Solskjaer is plotting the move on the advice of Ryan Giggs, who has worked with Rodon at international level on four occasions.
This would be the second time that Solskjaer has taken advice from Giggsy, following the aforementioned £15m move for James.
The article states that Solskjaer wants to ‘beef up’ his defence as he plans on shipping out Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo, leaving ample space for a signing or two in that area of the field.
Rodon isn’t a player I’ve watched in action, though we have to trust Giggsy’s advice. James looks like a potential bargain and perhaps Rodon will have exactly the same effect…
