Man Utd player ratings during 2-1 win over Aston Villa (Premier League home, 2020/21)

David de Gea – Made some top-drawer saves in the second-half as the Villa pressure began to mount. 7/10

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – His ball into Martial for the opener was excellent, while defensively he was solid. I’m still not sure what he was doing for the Villa goal, mind… 5/10

Eric Bailly – Unreal. Won so many headers I lost count. Made interceptions, blocks and put in tackles galore. That block at the end was the moment of the game. Man of the Match. 9/10

Harry Maguire – Cleared his lines sensibly on numerous occasions. Won headers. Marshalled his fellow defenders well. 6/10

Luke Shaw – Bombed up and down that left-hand side all game and gave Matty Cash absolute fits. Starting to look like the player we spent £30m on in 2013. He was outstanding. 8/10

Scott McTominay – Probably United’s poorest player on the day. He just didn’t look like he got to grips with the pace of the game at all. 4/10

Fred – Started like a house on fire. Was slick in possession and made some great runs. Looked tired in the final 30 minutes, though. 5/10

Paul Pogba – United’s best midfielder. He was everywhere. Made positive runs, used his physicality well. Played some nice passes. Had a couple of golden chances to score that he wasted, though. 6/10

Bruno Fernandes – Tried to make things happen with some great long passes. Tucked away his penalty nicely. Didn’t look happy to be subbed off. 5/10

Anthony Martial – Took his goal brilliantly. Led the line very well, too. 6/10

Marcus Rashford – You go through every emotion when watching Rashford. He showed his brilliance and inconsistencies throughout tonight’s game. 5/10

Subs:

Nemanja Matic – Came on to see out the game.

Dan James – Brought an injection of pace.

Axel Tuanzebe – Not enough time to mark.
