The Red Devils blew hot and cold, though in the end, we’ll have to be satisfied with a point. It’s time for our Man Utd player ratings vs Southampton…
David de Gea – Probably could have done better with Southampton’s second, but he clattered into the post which resulted in an unfortunate injury. Subbed at half-time. 4/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Played in some lovely crosses, particularly in that second 45. Made some key tackles, too. 7/10
Victor Lindelof – A steady outing from the Ice Man. 5/10
Harry Maguire – Made an important challenge or two. Won plenty of headers. 6/10
Alex Telles – Offers plenty of threat down that left-hand side. He’s brilliant when it comes to crossing and passing. Unfortunately had to be subbed off with a groin issue. 6/10
Nemanja Matic – Did ok, but definitely improved in the latter stages. 5/10
Fred – Gave away a silly free-kick for the Southampton second. Like many of his teammates, had a much better second-half when United grew into the game. 6/10
Bruno Fernandes – He just seems to always impact games even when not playing well. He leaves St. Mary’s with a goal and an assist next to his name. 7/10
Donny van de Beek – Drifted in and out of the game. Sometimes his passing let him down… 5/10
Mason Greenwood – Had a couple of big chances early doors and missed them both. Subbed at half-time. 4/10
Marcus Rashford – Just doesn’t look confident in front of goal at the moment. His build-up play was good but his quality was lacking in that final moment. 4/10
Subs:
Dean Henderson – Made a couple of important saves at the start of the second half.
Edinson Cavani – Changed the game with his movement, passing and deadly eye for a goal. United’s Man of the Match.
Brandon Williams – Not enough time to mark.
