Man Utd ready to beat Liverpool to striker signing

Manchester United have made four superb signings already this window, but with the departures of Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Angel Henriquez, coupled with Javier Hernandez’s future probably lying away from Old Trafford, you feel the club need to bring in another striker.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are ready to beat Liverpool to the £32.5million signing of the Belgian striker Christian Benteke.

Benteke, 24, plays his football for Aston Villa, where he has been hugely impressive since his big-money move just a few years ago.

The strong, powerful frontman scores all types of goals, including plenty with his head. He’d be a superb asset to any club who can land him, but the money being mentioned to bring Benteke in is quite a lot – especially when you factor in he’d probably be a backup to Wayne Rooney.

Would Benteke be a good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. How can Man United beat Liverpool to the signing of Benteke if Liverpool haven’t / won’t bid?

  2. This is quite a funny scenario.

Majority of Liverpool fans (me included) don’t want to buy Benteke. Not sure the opinion of United fans. I suppose the £30mil doesn’t matter as much to united who are spending several hundred anyway so if he was a flop you could just go and buy another £30m+ striker the following transfer window.

However, saying all this, the thought of United ‘beating’ us to his signing brings added competition to his capture. So as much as I should be ecstatic you’re after him, I know as soon as you get him he’ll be seen as the greatest striker in the league and we were fools to stall on his signature.

    You just can’t win.
