Man United are ready to spend a decent chunk of money to sign defender, Cristian Romero.
It’s no secret. Manchester United will probably sign a centre-half of some form this summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer no doubt has his top targets in mind. Though one name that keeps appearing is Cristian Romero.
The Atalanta loanee is coming off the back of a brilliant season, with the Serie A side expected to buy him outright from Juventus for a fee of around £13.6m
Atalanta would then be open to selling Romero on straight away – for a significantly greater fee than what they’re paying to acquire him.
Apparently, United are ‘ready to invest’ £38.5m (€45m), to sign the 23-year-old. However, the selling club are stalling on making their decision. Romero is currently away at the Copa America with his native Argentina, with the Italian’s hoping he has a great tournament – in order to ensure his transfer value rises further.
Sadly, that means United will be made to wait for now on Romero, which does make me wonder if Solskjaer will start looking at other targets first.
The last thing the club needs is to wait on Romero, for Atalanta to decide to keep him for another year – leaving United without time to bring in a centre-half which is the big need this summer.
I’m not going to sit here and say we absolutely have to sign Romero, though I’d like to think he’d be better than the current options available to Solskjaer.
For now, United will have to be patient if this is the guy they really want.
