Manchester United have nurtured one of the best goalkeeper talents in world football over the past few years, but unfortunately it looks like they are about to lose their man, as The Mirror reckon Louis van Gaal is resigned to losing his number one.
This would be a huge blow. De Gea has single-handedly won us countless amounts of points over the past couple of years, and to lose him in a cut-price deal because he is nearing the end of his contract would be bad news.
It means that the hunt for a replacement must begin now. In the Premier League the likes of Asmir Begovic, Petr Cech and Hugo Lloris would all be reasonable targets, but it might be best to look further afield.
Even the keeper who De Gea is replacing might be a good option. Iker Casillas isn’t over the hill just yet, and he’d be a good idea.
For me though, the number one has to be Bernd Leno. The German is one of the most underrated keepers in the world at the moment, and he has been in sensational form for Bayer Leverkusen, and he’s just 23.
