Manchester United were expected to have a relatively quiet month in terms of transfer business in this window, but according to the usually reliable Guillem Balague, Louis van Gaal has launched an audacious £27million bid in an attempt to lure Nicolás Otamendi to Old Trafford.
That bid is believed to have been rejected by Valencia, who are very reluctant to selling their star centre-back unless a real huge money offer is thrown their way.
Otamendi, 26, has been in fine form this season for the Spanish side who are clearly on the up. With money problems sorted out by Peter Lim, they have no real rush to sell the Argentine.
From what I’ve seen of him, he’s a big, strong and powerful centre-back who commands from the back. The only thing he seems to lack is any real pace, but if you position yourself corruptly thats something a top centre-back can go without.
Revista De La Liga will definitely be worth a watch tonight then, and hopefully some more of the ins and outs about this deal will be cleared up.
A couple of transfer stories: MUFC made a €35m offer for Otamendi that has been rejected. More on @revistadelaliga 6pm today
