Man United are looking at Leicester City centre-back, Caglar Soyuncu, as a possible summer acquisition.
It can be argued that finding a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire should be the priority in this transfer window. Eric Bailly is consistently injured, Victor Lindelof, consistently inconsistent. It also looks as though Axel Tuanzebe is heading out on loan.
Raphael Varane and Joules Kounde have been the name most-linked with a potential Old Trafford switch. Personally, though, I’d look closer to home. United need someone with Premier League experience, someone who can come in and start from day one.
Now, we could be closer to that, with Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu seemingly on the radar. The story comes from Turkish journalist, Ekrem Konur, who tweeted the news at lunchtime yesterday.
Apparently, United have added the 25-year-old to their summer transfer list in their ‘search for a stopper’. Furthermore, talks with Leicester City are scheduled to take place ‘soon’.
Whether that means United are going to officially put in a bid in for Soyuncu remains to be seen. At the very least, though, they’re going to speak to Leicester and gauge how much the Turkey international would cost.
Soyuncu has enjoyed a largely positive couple of years in the Premier League with Leicester, though he does have a big mistake in him.
In terms of how Soyuncu would fit in at United, I really like his pace and aggression. The Turk would be the perfect complement to Maguire, with the pairing looking like it could work (on paper at least).
Leicester would demand a pretty penny to let him leave, though. Don’t forget it cost United £80million to sign Maguire from the Foxes. You’d expect they’d demand a number close to that to part with Soyuncu.
