Man Utd striker scores brace on return to action

Manchester United have been lacking goals from the strikers in recent weeks, particularly when Wayne Rooney had to drop back into midfield against Chelsea – leaving us with the misfiring Radamel Falcao up front…

However the club could have another alternative available to them this weekend. Robin van Persie has been out of action for the last two months, and having returned to first-team training last week, he featured for the U21s last night.

The flying Dutchman made an excellent return, scoring two wonderfully taken goals, and proving just how vital he could be in this run-in.

He should automatically go ahead of Radamel Falcao in terms of selection, and I’d even consider starting him against West Brom this weekend in the 4-3-3 formation, as that is a setup that suits his attributes perfectly, allowing him to stay central.

I’m not sure what that’d mean for the club captain Wayne Rooney, but I’m sure Louis van Gaal would be able to accommodate the England striker within his starting XI.
