Manchester United have missed out on reported defensive target, Gabriel Paulista, as he has been granted a work permit ahead of a move to fellow Premier League side Arsenal. Paulista, 24, has been in stunning form for Villareal this season, hence attracting the interest from several high profile sides.
Paulista is going to cost Arsenal somewhere in the region of £15million, and no doubt he’ll prove to be a good signing for the Gunners. I still feel that we’d much rather sign that senior figure at the back rather than bringing in another youngster.
Arsenal are expected to complete the move at some point today, meaning Manchester United will have to look at other targets instead. The likes of Aymeric Laporte, Aleksandar Dragovic and Mats Hummels are names that have been mentioned since the start of the winter window, but at the moment it seems as though any defender would be an improvement with the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones desperately struggling for form.
