Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of a new right-back signing. Dani Alves has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract in Catalonia, and he will be available on a free transfer this summer.
The 32-year old has been a reported United target over the past few months, and despite his age he would be an absolutely fantastic free signing.
Louis van Gaal is clearly after a new right-back. Rafael has clearly not impressed the Iron Tulip and Antonio Valencia’s performances have been extremely hit and miss.
Even if Alves is just a stopgap for a year or two, he’d bring some experience to a very young back line and he’d be able to guide them through the tougher matches.
He would probably command hefty wages, but a player like him on a free deal doesn’t come around very often, so its definitely a risk well worth taking.
