Man United are hoping to resolve Paul Pogba’s future by Christmas.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s start to the season has been mixed, with the Red Devils playing great and poor in pretty much equal measure.
The squad is looking in excellent shape. Credit to the gaffer for that. However, there’s one issue looming; Paul Pogba’s contract situation.
Our Frenchman is out of contract in the summer, with the club really having no idea where Pogba’s future lies.
Now, according to The Sun, it’s being claimed that United want a final decision on the player’s future by Christmas. Pogba would be free to talk to other club’s by January if no new deal is signed by then – meaning he could potentially walk away for free next summer.
United are ‘desperate’ to avoid having this circus drag out over the second half of the season, which could potentially affect our title race – assuming we’re in it at that point, of course.
The Old Trafford club are trying to thrash out a new deal for the Frenchman, worth a nice £400k-a-week, as United are growing ‘increasingly confident’ that new terms can be reached.
That said, United are aware of interest from both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, who’d both love to take Pogba on a free. Obviously.
Losing Pogba once for nothing is bad enough. But imagine losing him again for nothing?! Particularly when United spent £90million to bring him back to Manchester.
For what it’s worth, I expected more from Pogba during his second stint but that hasn’t been the case. I’d obviously prefer to keep him around as he’s been better lately, but if he goes, United would have to make it their priority to replace him with someone equally as gifted.
