Man Utd’s move for Bilbao defender ‘80% done’

Manchester United could be close to sealing their second signing of the January transfer window, with the Daily Star labelling Louis van Gaal’s move for Aymeric Laporte ‘80% done’. The French centre-back, currently plying his trade in Spain, is regarded as one of the hottest young talents in the game.

At just 20 years of age, he already has over 100 league appearances to his name, over 65 of which have come for Bilbao in Spain’s top flight. Add to that over 40 appearances for various French youth sides, and his experience at such a young age is quite impressive.

I like him, and theres no doubting the talent that he has. However I’d be concerned with signing another young centre-back, because we already have a fair few of those on our books. For me, experience is key in the next signing we make. We need someone who could come in and control the back line from the off, and although Laporte has that potential, he couldn’t come in and do that right away.

Would Laporte be a good signing? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.
