Jose Mourinho led his Manchester United side to a huge victory over the weekend, with the Red Devils beating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford.
United did things the hard way, conceding in the first-half before coming back to secure the win, but it was a result the hosts deserved; and fought hard for.
An integral factor in the result was the performance of Nemanja Matic. The Serbia international had been struggling over the last month or so, but my, he stepped it up with a brilliant display against his former employers.
The midfield maestro has been speaking to United Review about his time at the Theatre of Dreams so far, and he was quick to heap the praise on young talents coming through.
Matic was asked about the Manchester United academy, more so two players in particular: Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes.
‘They are good players,’ the Serb told United Review, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
‘They’re still very young but they show every time they train with us that Manchester United has a good future. ‘I remember when I was young how important it was to train with the best players and I hope they will continue like this.’
We’ve already seen glimpses of what young Gomes can do. This lad is special and he has a huge future. No doubt he’ll keep getting opportunities, and those will become more frequent as he gets older.
Then we have Tahith Chong. The big-haired Dutchman has been putting in some wonderful displays for United’s youth team, and to learn he’s been training with the first-team is great for his confidence. If it’s possible, Chong could be an even brighter prospect than the aforementioned Gomes, but both have massive potential.
