Manchester United add surprising Portuguese manager to list of Mourinho replacements: report

At this point, it’d be naive if Edward Woodward wasn’t already looking at potential Jose Mourinho replacements. Manchester United are in a rut at this point, things may have to change.

According to German media outlet Bild, per The Sun, the surprising candidate to take over from the self-proclaimed Special One is Wolverhampton Wanderers boss, Nuno Espirito Santo… Also on the list is ex-Real Madrid gaffer, Zinedine Zidane.

While the latter is the obvious candidate, Santo has worked wonders with Wolves in England since taking over just over twelve months ago. He has them playing an excellent style, while also picking up points. They won the Championship at a canter last term; that’s no mean feat.

With that said, is he a big enough name to take over at Old Trafford? I’m just not sure. Right now, we should probably stick with Jose Mourinho as I’m not convinced the right fit is available at this point.

As the season goes on, the picture will become clearer. I think we’d all be a tad underwhelmed if Espirito Santo is named as the man to apparently take us forward, but if the poor results keep coming, Edward Woodward’s hand may well be forced…
