Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ with AS Monaco, over the signature of Fabinho, according to the usually reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, translated by The Metro.
Over the summer, Jose Mourinho’s side was linked with a move to sign the Brazilian, but after the Ligue 1 club allowed Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Kylian Mbappe and Tiemoue Bakayoko to leave, it always looked unlikely that they’d let a fifth starter go.
Now Di Marzio reckons that United are closing in on a deal worth around £44million for the versatile star who’d no doubt improve the overall outlook of the Red Devils’ starting XI.
For Mourinho, signing a player who is excellent at both central midfield and right-back is perfect. Although you’d imagine he’d be deployed in the middle more often than not, as it’d give Paul Pogba that extra freedom that he so desperately craves.
I was gutted when the deal didn’t come off during the summer and I’d love to see it happen following this season. He’s an excellent player and I get the impression that he’d love to move to the Premier League and work under Mourinho.
