Manchester United could well be about to land another significant player on deadline day, according to the Turkish TV channel Koprubasi, Louis van Gaal and Edward Woodward have agreed a £26.4million fee with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
Çalhanoğlu, 21, broke into the Bayer Leverkusen team last term, and lit the Bundesliga alight with his brilliant free-kick ability. He scored an impressive 13 goals in all competitions in his debut season, which saw him earn his first Turkey cap too.
His form has meant that some of Europe’s elite clubs have been eyeing the youngster, and Manchester United are now frontrunners for his signature.
With the clock ticking, you do feel that Manchester United may have left this one too late, but if the club’s hierarchy work fast and really want to, this deal could be pushed through but Çalhanoğlu certainly won’t come cheap as Leverkusen won’t have time to land a replacement.
