Manchester United Football Club could be on the verge of announcing their second signing of the summer, that’s according to Spanish media outlet Don Balon, translated by the Daily Express. They say that the Red Devils have agreed a fee for Alvaro Morata, and the signing could be completed this week.
After going back and forth regarding the transfer fee, it seems as though Madrid and United have agreed upon a deal worth a huge £61.5million that will see Morata become the latest addition at the Theatre of Dreams.
It comes as no secret that Jose Mourinho has been chasing a new striker in the transfer market, particularly after letting Zlatan Ibrahimovic leave on a free transfer following injury. The big Swede scored 28 across all competitions, and that was by far and away our most prolific outlet last term.
In contrast to Morata, the Spaniard scored on 20 occasions, however, with much less playing time handed to him, that’ a pretty impressive record. You also have to factor in that Morata’s best years are still to come, and if he continues to progress and develop at such speed, we could well have one of the best players on our hands.
Now, it is down to Edward Woodward to push a deal over the line, because since the arrival of Victor Lindelof, things have looked pretty stagnant on that front.
