Jose Mourinho has apparently agreed a huge £80million deal to land Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
That’s according to The Sun in an exclusive, who say the Serbia midfielder is set to be United’s first big-money signing of the summer after a breakthrough in talks.
Mourinho was reluctant to meet Milinkovic-Savic’s £80million asking price, but United realise that they may have to pay the full amount in order to land the 23-year-old.
Milinkovic-Savic is tall and physical, while also possessing brilliant technical attributes with the ball at his feet. In the modern-day game, he’s the perfect Premier League midfielder, particularly in a three alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
With the money in football nowadays, the Red Devils should just pay Lazio’s asking price and get the deal completed before the World Cup. As the summer goes on, interest in the player will only heighten which would lead to more competition for his signature.
With Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini yet to sign a new deal, it’s key that the club brings in at least one top quality central player. Milinkovic-Savic would certainly be a good start.
