Manchester United Football Club will be hoping for a few signings that can turn them into perennial title challengers once again. The Red Devils are now in the hands of executive vice chairman Edward Woodward, and he has been tasked with securing signings.
One man whom the Old Trafford club have been heavily linked with is AS Monaco’s Fabinho. The versatile Brazilian was part of the side that blitzed Ligue 1 this year, as well as making it into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, it looks as though the French champions are a side that are going to get dismantled a lot sooner than we imagined. A report from 101 Great Goals claims that Manchester United, not City, lead the race to sign Fabinho this summer.
In their article, they quoted verified journalist Hesham Bilal-Hafiz, who claims an ‘impeccable source’ has told him that Manchester United are leading the charge at this point in time.
Time for the news. All gone on quiet on his front but I was told by an impeccable source Utd are considerably leading the race for Fabinho!

Got permission to reveal (for those skeptical there was no source). It is @julien_mgrt. The go to guy for Monaco news, superb links! #mufc pic.twitter.com/o9Q4FYDpgI

This is a rumour that has some real weight behind it all of the sudden. The 23-year-old is a brilliant little player whom I have no doubts that Mourinho loves – most notably due to his versatility.
In terms of where he’d fit into the team, I reckon his best position on the pitch is a holding midfield role. In a trio alongside Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, it’d be the perfect blend of defensive diligence, technical ability and sheer talent, and it is a combination that definitely excites.
