Manchester United certainly aren’t hanging around this summer, with the club pushing through deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Now they’re trying to tie down their current players to new contracts, with United today announcing that Marcus Rashford has signed a new four-year deal, with the option for a further twelve months.
This keeps the 21-year-old at Old Trafford until at least 2023, potentially 2024 – which is huge news. Rashford has turned into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s go-to striker over the last six months or so, and to know that his long-term future is secure is a weight off both their shoulders.
Timing-wise, United have done well. Today is the first day of pre-season training before the squad jet out to Australia on July 7th, so to have it done at the earliest opportunity bodes nicely going forward.
I don’t think it’s an understatement when I say that this is the season that could well define Rashford’s career. He needs an absolutely huge campaign, particularly if he gets a real run at playing as the main striker for the majority.
We need 20+ goals from him this time around as Rashford looks to kick on and take it to that next level. Only time will tell whether he’s capable of doing that, but getting a good pre-season under his belt would be a great start.
Congratulations, Marcus!
