Manchester United are still in the race to sign world-class attacker: report

Just when you thought the Antoine Griezmann saga was over, there is another twist in the tale… According to ESPN’s sources, Manchester United could still make a move for the 26-year-old Frenchman, just days after it was reported that Jose Mourinho’s interest in him had cooled

I’m just not sure what to make of this latest rumour. To me, it seems pretty clear that Griezmann isn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon. You have to respect his decision to stay in Atletico Madrid in the wake of their transfer ban. Loyalty like that in the modern game should be applauded.

That’s not to say this deal couldn’t happen in the future, however. I think United coming out and stating that their interest ‘has cooled’ is all a front. I’m of the opinion that it wasn’t coincidental that the news broke just hours before we learned Atletico’s transfer ban would be upheld.

I guess that we’ll have to wait until next summer at the very earliest, and I’m still of the opinion that United will get their man eventually. I just cannot see it happening this summer. If it does, it’d take one heck of a U-turn from Griezmann if he did decide he wants to leave Madrid in spite of their ban.

Griezmann is a brilliant player and he’d be perfect for our club. For now though, I fully expect Mourinho to look at other transfer targets and focus his attentions elsewhere.
