Yesterday, we covered a story which claimed that Manchester United were keen on signing Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.
Well, it’s fair to say the Manchester Evening News aren’t having any of it. Shortly after the aforementioned story broke, the MEN went against the grain to deny those rumours, claiming that the Red Devils aren’t actually interested in signing the 21-year-old midfielder this summer.
While he fits the profile of signings that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting at the moment, United ‘do not intend’ to move for Longstaff as the Baby Faced Assassin looks to overhaul this squad.
In what has been a whirlwind few days for us here at Old Trafford Faithful, Longstaff’s name was the one that excited me the most. Despite the fact that he’s injured at the moment, this young man oozes class.
I likened him to Michael Carrick in the story we ran yesterday and if he goes on to have half the career that his fellow Northerner has, then he’ll be hugely successful.
Perhaps it’s the fact that Longstaff may actually miss pre-season that’s putting Solskjaer off. Knee ligament issues aren’t to be taken lightly and who knows, if the player can come back strong next season, the Reds may be interested in signing him later down the line…
