Manchester United Football Club could be rapidly closing in on their first signing of the summer. That’s according to Portuguese media outlet Record, translated by the Daily Mail. They say that the Red Devils have agreed to sign Victor Lindelof from SL Benfica.
It is thought that terms between the two clubs have been agreed with the Swede set to put pen to paper on a long-term contract that the Theatre of Dreams, thus making him United’s first signing of a rather quiet transfer window so far.
Jose Mourinho is set to pay £30million up front, with a further £5million on offer depending on the player meeting certain milestones and goals whilst at the club.
I think it is pretty clear that the Red Devils need some help in the centre-back area. Alright, both Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly were nothing short of sensational for the most part of last season, but beyond those two we literally have nothing. Chris Smalling and Phil Jones haven’t really filled the manager with confidence, and they do tend to spend a lot of time out injured.
The 23-year-old defender had an excellent campaign out in Portugal, and United were linked with a mid-season move for him back in January, butt hat never came to fruition.
Mourinho is obviously a big fan of the player, and he got every single transfer decision correct last summer, so he has our full backing once again here.
