Manchester United’s January transfer window was a rather quiet one, with Jose Mourinho opting to stick with the players that he has at his disposal – in fact, he even let a couple of big names go in the form of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin. However, it looks like the summer may well be different.
The English media outlet, The Guardian translate a Canal+ report from France, and they say that Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid.
In terms of a transfer fee, they say it’ll cost the Red Devils a massive £85million, which is right up there with what Jose Mourinho dished out to sign Paul Pogba. They also say that personal terms have already been agreed, and Griezmann will earn £17.7million a year, whilst tying him down to Old Trafford until 2021.
What an impressive statement of intent this would be if Manchester United can somehow pull this off, and what a player Griezmann is. On his day, there really aren’t many better players in world football, and if you pair him up top with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, surely good things will happen.
In my opinion, this would be a brilliant signing, and you have to put trust in Edward Woodward and the rest of the board, who all did a superb job last summer in acquiring Jose’s targets.
